About this Session
College applications are ALOT. And that's before you tack on the whole other 50% that none of your 'regular' friends understand: the artistic admissions process!. You simply have too many questions, deadlines, possibilities, and opinions competing for your attention. A Groundplan Strategy Session gives you (and your parents) focused time with an experienced technical-theatre mentor to examine where you are, determine what matters most, and establish a realistic plan for moving forward. This is not a generic college-counseling appointment. The conversation is grounded in the realities of technical-theatre education, portfolio development, production experience, artistic admission, and the early professional field. THIS SESSION IS A GOOD FIT IF: • You are unsure what kind of college program or degree is right for you • Your school list does not feel focused or balanced • You need to prioritize portfolio, résumé, application, and interview work • You are deciding between technical disciplines or professional directions • You have received conflicting advice and need an experienced outside perspective • You are approaching an important deadline or decision without a clear plan • You are a current high school junior or senior. DURING THE SESSION, WE MAY: • Clarify your immediate and long-term goals • Discuss BA, BFA, conservatory, university, and alternative training paths • Review the reasoning behind your current school or opportunity list • Identify strengths, gaps, and priorities in your preparation • Establish a practical timeline for materials, applications, interviews, or outreach • Discuss how to evaluate programs and opportunities beyond name recognition • Work through a specific decision, obstacle, or change in direction • Determine the most useful next steps and where additional support may be needed YOU’LL LEAVE WITH: A clearer sense of direction, defined priorities, and an actionable plan tailored to your current goals and circumstances. This is a strategy and mentorship session. It does not replace academic admissions counseling or financial-aid guidance. Groundplan cannot guarantee admission, but we can help you approach the process with greater clarity and preparation. With everything feeling equally urgent, we can help you identify what comes next.
