About this Session
The first time you explain your work under pressure should not be during the interview that matters most. This one-on-one mock interview recreates the experience of a college technical-theatre interview, internship interview, or early-career conversation. A Groundplan mentor will ask realistic questions, examine how you discuss your work, and help you become more confident, specific, and prepared. The goal is not to memorize perfect answers. It is to help you understand your own story well enough to respond thoughtfully, even when the questions are unexpected. THIS SESSION IS A GOOD FIT IF: • You know your work but struggle to explain it clearly • You become nervous, overly brief, or unfocused during interviews • You are preparing for a college portfolio review or technical-theatre interview • You want to practice answering difficult or unexpected questions • You need feedback on your confidence, communication, or professional presence DURING THE SESSION: • We will conduct a realistic mock interview based on your goals • You will be able to practice discussing your interests, experience, strengths, and challenges • You will practice explaining specific portfolio projects and production responsibilities • Post interview, we will discuss any answers that felt generic, unclear, over-rehearsed, or incomplete • Offer feedback on your use of examples and production stories • We may discuss questions you should be prepared to ask the interviewer • We may discuss pacing, body language, virtual-interview setup, and professional dress YOU’LL LEAVE WITH: Direct feedback, stronger interview language, greater confidence, and specific areas to practice before your next interview. This session focuses on preparation and communication. It cannot guarantee admission, employment, or a particular interview outcome. Students receive the greatest benefit when they arrive ready to discuss real projects, experiences, and goals. We are practicing the conversation before the conversation counts.
