Portfolio Power Hour

About this Session

A strong portfolio is more than just photos pasted into slides. It tells your story, and can shape the flow of your entire interview. It helps someone understand how you think, solve problems, collaborate, and contribute to a production. During this focused portfolio review, a Groundplan mentor will evaluate your current materials through the eyes of a college interviewer or working theatre professional. We’ll identify what is communicating clearly, what is missing, and what may be distracting from the strength of your work. You do not need a finished portfolio to book this session. We can work with anything from a folder of production photos to a nearly complete digital portfolio. THIS SESSION IS A GOOD FIT IF: • You have photographs and materials but do not know what to include • Your portfolio feels disorganized, repetitive, or difficult to navigate • You need help explaining your individual contribution to collaborative work • You are preparing for a college interview, internship, job, or professional opportunity • You have built a portfolio but want an experienced outside perspective before sharing it DURING THE SESSION, WE MAY: • Review the selection and quality of your current material • Identify important projects, processes, or skills that are missing • Strengthen the order and overall story of the portfolio • Discuss captions, project descriptions, and your chosen documentation • Recommend edits to layout, hierarchy, navigation, and visual consistency • Determine which material should be revised, replaced, expanded, or removed • Create a prioritized plan for completing the portfolio YOU’LL LEAVE WITH: Specific feedback, clear priorities, and an actionable plan for making your portfolio more professional, personal, and effective. This is a review and working session, not a complete portfolio build in one hour. Students with a more complete portfolio should expect realtime edits to be made in this process. The amount we can address will depend on the quantity and condition of the materials you bring. Students seeking substantial hands-on design work may benefit from additional sessions. Prerequisite: first time clients must submit current portfolio 5 days in advance, and some may be asked to prepare more materials before meeting with Groundplan team.
